I've been wanting to ask you, did you actually major in Illustration? It may be obvious, but I'd like to know. I want to go to art school when the time comes and I'm deciding what path to take.

Definitely you should go through art school. That is the path you should take if you want to gain the basis. This would be a great start if you want to bring your skills to the professional level. Nevertheles, everything is up to you - work and patience.
